Unfortunately, a simple x-ray or blood test can’t diagnose fibromyalgia. There are no definitive tests for fibro. Your doctor should take blood tests – but only to eliminate other possible causes for the symptoms that you are experiencing. Eliminating those is the first clue that we maybe looking at fibromyalgia.

Having eliminated other possibilities, the doctor then looks to see if the patient has experienced widespread pain in all four quadrants of the body for at least three months, and displays many of the other common symptoms of FMS. The four quadrants that experience pain are the left and right sides of the body and pain above and below the waist.
